WHAT ARE THE MAIN THINGS YOU LOOK FOR WHEN YOU READ A SCRIPT?
Inventive ideas and elements I’ve never seen before, all of which are integrated into a story that’s worth a $10 movie ticket. The script has to offer escapism, it has to be creative, and it needs to make sense as a million-dollar investment. It has to offer entertainment and commercial potential.

WHAT MAKES BELIEVABLE CHARACTERS?
Characters need to be human. They should have flaws. They should always make decisions we can understand, even if we don’t agree with them. It’s important to remember that we don’t necessarily have to love the hero, but it’s essential that we at least find them interesting.

WHAT’S THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE YOU SEE?
Writers telling a story with no broad appeal, or crafting a tale with a thoroughly dislikable protagonist.

WHAT KIND OF SCRIPTS ARE YOU MORE LIKELY TO CONSIDER?
Personally, I gravitate towards thrillers with explosive yet realistic action; horror movies that are genuinely scary without relying on gore; and comedies which tap real-world situations for humor and avoid contrived (and magical) setups.

WHAT’S THE BEST SCRIPT YOU’VE EVER READ?
Very difficult question, but I'll go with the original TRUMAN SHOW. It was much darker and set in Manhattan. Andrew Niccol hasn’t written a bad script. Also loved THE SIXTH SENSE and will never forget reading it for the first time and reaching the twist.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MOVIEGOING EXPERIENCE?
It has to be when I was 12 and I saw BACK TO THE FUTURE on the big screen. I’m 33 now and I remember the walk home from the theater vividly. I’m not sure I’ve ever “escaped” as much as I did that night.
